| Anyone who knows me, knows that I like toys. I don't just like them - I love them . It's not just the latest gadget that makes me happy - it's what that "thing" allows me to accomplish. If some toy can somehow enable me to capture something that used to live only in my imagination - then I'm into it. Big time. Whether I'm working with Remote Control Helicopters that fly cameras around inches from the ground - to multi-million dollar systems to execute some of the most original imagery today - I'm happy as can be. There is one very important point that I must make though: toys should never eclipse content. In other words - while I can become obsessed with "how" something is done at times - I never lose sight of the fact that the main goal should be "why" it is done. I come from a pretty strict journalism background where we were taught that content and ideas are king - I'm a firm believer in that and always will be. So even though I'll admit to being a bit of a gadget hound - two of my favorite sayings remain - The acronym K.I.S.S. - "Just because you can - doesn't mean you should." And I usually apply that later saying to gear - weighing yourself down with too much of it - or using something just for the purpose of doing so - even when it's not warranted or necessarily effective - will often stand in your way of capturing the most important moment. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate enough to be called on to discuss and work on emerging technologies around the globe for companies such as Apple, Canon, Disney, Dreamworks, Industrial Light & Magic, and Zeiss amongst many others. While I consider this to be a priviledge - my goal will always remain the same: To share relevent concepts/ideas with others - and to do so well. |
